The first recorded ice cream came from China, roughly around 200 BC, when a milk and rice mixture was frozen by packing it into snow before consuming it. Roman emperors also were rumoured to have sent slaves up snow-capped mountains to bring back fresh snow which was flavoured. We’ve come a long way since then, but the evolution of ice-cream has not stopped.
Ice Cream Lab’s concept revolves around molecular gastronomy made famous by the likes of world-famous chefs such as, Heston Blumenthal, whereby liquid nitrogen is used to instantly freeze fresh ingredients into ice cream. The company makes every cup to order as per the customer’s choice of flavours. Within a minute, their state-of-the-art machines freezes the low calorie, non-artificial liquid base into ice-cream.
This innovative ice cream concept originated in California, USA, by two brothers in 2013. With their head office in the UAE, the brand has quickly spread its wings across the globe and are now found in over 12 countries, recently signing master franchise’s in the UK, Germany and Bangladesh. They will soon be adding Poland, Mauritius, Egypt, Turkey, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore and Sri Lanka to their growing list, and are on the lookout for master franchisees in the Middle East and North Africa.
Last month, Ice Cream Lab took the (ice-cream) cake, after being awarded the Best Emerging Franchise for year 2022 at The Global Franchise Awards held in San Diego, California. This company however, is no stranger to the spot light. Last year, Ice Cream Lab broke a Guinness World Record with the British ice cream company, Pan-n-Ice at a shopping centre grand opening in Abu Dhabi. The colourful record was broken by displaying 1,001 different flavours – which is the most ice cream flavours that have ever been displayed at one time. In a country that isn’t afraid to push the boundaries of possibility, they’ve also won third place for the UAE’s favourite brand.
According to Rashid Harab, Founder and CEO of Ice Cream Lab, when the company started in 2014, they only had seven flavours. Since then, Mr Harab said, “Based on the UAE culture and taste, we developed yoghurt ice cream, yoghurt based Acai ice cream, and came up with eight more flavours. Through our research and development department, we can come up with 1000’s of new flavours suiting our customers’ taste from different cultures.”
Not all profits come from instore. The company has catered for over 500 events to date including, weddings, corporate and private functions. The company have portable machines for your team to bring to events. You are able to work with the host to even create a special flavour to dazzle the guests.
